Get involved at your credit union.

Volunteering with the Meritus Credit Union Board of Directors is a great opportunity to contribute towards our continued growth and success.

The Board of Directors is responsible for the general direction and control of the credit union. Board Members help the Credit Union develop long-range strategic plans. Board members also review policies and procedures and oversee the operation and financial performance of the Credit Union.

As a Board member, your voice represents tens of thousands of members to ensure Meritus Credit Union is providing the products and services to meet the expectations and needs of our members.

Meritus Credit Union Board of Directors, Supervisory Committee, and Associate Directors serve as volunteers and are not compensated.

Associate Director Program

The Associate Director Program allows interested Meritus Credit Union members to gain the necessary skills and knowledge needed before making a full commitment to possibly holding a position on the Board of Directors in the future. Our Associate Directors contribute to and participate in strategic and policy discussions, under supervision of the Board of Directors, in a non-voting capacity.

Associate Directors must abide by the rules set forth in the Board of Directors policy. A limited number of positions are available in the Associate Director Program.

General Duties

The purpose of the Board of Directors is, on behalf of the membership, to ensure that the credit union reaches its objectives and long-term goals in the best interest of the membership. The Board meets once per month to review the progress of the credit union toward its strategic objectives. Volunteers need to be willing and able to devote the time and energy it takes to serve on various committees. Expectations of a credit union volunteer are:

  • Actively promote the credit union
  • Be a team player and act in the best interest of the membership

An Associate Director’s first term may be less than 12 months if they are appointed in a month between Annual Membership Meetings. Associate Directors shall serve a twelve (12) month term, with re-appointment, at the discretion of the Board of Directors at the annual meeting.

Time Commitment

Associate Directors should be prepared to attend monthly Board and periodic committee meetings. Board meetings are generally held on the last Wednesday of each month at 10 am for approximately two hours. Directors may attend remotely in extenuating circumstances.
